Is it true that the jews are not native to Palestine ?

The Old testament makes it clear that that land ped into Jewish hands only after their plans to eradicate its native population had succeeded. If this is indeed the truth, then where do the Jews originally hail from? And shouldn't that long forgotten point of origin rather than the stolen territory of Palestine, be regarded as their true homeland?
